Character Development

We just got back from a week in Edmonton visiting our great friends Rob and Angela and their two kids, Christopher (2.5) and Isaac (3 months)

Rob and Angela have a lovely new house, make a killer martini, and have lots of toys for Bodie to play with.

I will write more on our activities in another post but before I forgot I wanted to comment on Bodie facing his fears.  There were two great examples.

The first was at Jurassic Forest. It is a fun place about an hour outside Edmonton. It had two trails that wandered through woods and around most turns there were dinosaurs.  They were on motion sensors and when you approached they would move around and roar.

After a bit of hesitation and assurances that they weren't real Bodie enjoyed himself until he saw the sabber tooth tiger. It scared him.  (Though the T-Rex didn't)

After seeing everything there was to see we decided to walk the trails again.  At first Bodie said he didn't want to go down the side trail that led to the tiger, then he decided to see the creature just before it.  Then he asked me to pick him up and run by the tiger, which we did.

The second example was in Rob and Angela's lane.  It has the required neighbourhood barking dogs who appear unexpectedly and throw themselves at the fences.  They also scared Bodie.  We had to walk down the lane to get to and from the park. One evening when we were returning from the park Bodie insisted on Dave and I walking ahead of us and he waited and then ran by each yard by himself.  He was very proud.
