Dave and I thought we would give Bodie a taste of what northerners do in winter and head to a warmer climate. We chose Maui. Neither of us had been to Hawaii before but liked the idea of a tropical paradise where we wouldn't have language, water or safety issues and it wasn't too long a flight. That and the dollar is hovering around par.
I now understand why people go to Hawaii. Traveling with Bodie meant we did not do as much as we sometimes do on vacation (see every possible thing) or as little as we do sometimes on vacation (find somewhere with a nice view and read all day).
Bodie was so excited about flying to Maui he did not sleep much. When we landed and taxied to the terminal Bodie could not take his eyes off the blue sky and palm trees.
| The hotel provided a crib. You never know what you are going to get for a crib. This one looked like Romanian orphanage surplus, but it did the trick. It was the first time we had all slept in one room since the week after Bodie was born (and a few days up at Mum's). It confirmed that he is a noisy active sleeper, and having a squeaky crib made sure we knew when he was moving around. It allowed us to attempt to sing him back to sleep from bed. Dave's song of choice was Redemption Song by Bob Marley, Bodie is a big fan of both Dave and Bob. |
We were on the top floor of the hotel, in a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen. This was the view. We could hear the waves.

This is us swimming. Bodie loves the water. This flotation devise keeps him sitting upright so we don't have to hold on to him all the time he is in the water (we do hold the rings if not him).
| We spent some time exploring other beaches. This one was in the north of Maui. It was lovely and there was the option of watching the surfers or the swimmers. |
| We went inland one day and went to the Iao Needle. It is a historical site and in a rain forest so it was quite beautiful. Scenes from Jurassic Park were filmed around here. |
When we got off the flight back in Vancouver I was worried that he was going to be too cold. This might have been overkill. |
